DAVID HERTER

Principal, has over 30 years of experience as a corporate banker and trainer. Prior to founding Herter Associates in 2004, Mr. Herter served as Director of Credit & Capital Markets Training at FleetBoston Financial where he was responsible for developing and delivering credit and finance courses to over 5,000 credit professionals throughout the Commercial Bank and Risk Organization. Mr. Herter ran the bank’s prestigious Corporate Banker Program that trained incoming undergraduates and MBAs to become financial analysts, lenders and capital markets associates for lending units throughout the bank. As well, he delivered a continuing education curriculum of over 40 seminars for experienced lenders.

Prior to joining Credit & Capital Markets Training, Mr. Herter was a Managing Director and Team Leader in BankBoston’s Media & Communications Lending Group with oversight responsibility for the bank’s $1.4 billion Global Cable TV Portfolio. In that capacity he led the bank’s initiatives with domestic and Latin American cable companies, cable programmers and satellite operators. Mr. Herter served as a senior lender in Media & Communications for nine years.

Earlier in his commercial banking career, Mr. Herter was as a Senior Lender in Middle Market New England serving middle market clients in a broad range of industries. He also served as a Training Manager in the bank’s Loan Officer Development Program.

Prior to joining the bank, Mr. Herter taught high school History and Latin. Mr. Herter earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Classics from Bowdoin College and a Masters Degree from Brown University. David can be reached at david@herterassociates.com.


MARGARET AKE

Partner, has joined Herter Associates after a 14-year career in teaching at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. At Endicott Ms. Ake taught a variety of courses in the general business, accounting, and entrepreneurship curriculum including: Economics, Statistics, Finance, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Tax Accounting, Entrepreneurial Finance and Strategy. Ms. Ake also taught a series of corporate financial training seminars delivered through contracts at the Graduate and Professional School. She directed the Case Writing Program and has had eight business education case studies published in a variety business journals. Ms. Ake received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005 and was nominated for the award for eight consecutive years.

Ms. Ake recently started working with Harvard Business School Publishing in its Leadership Direct Program, an innovative, collaborative program that builds general management capabilities for corporate clients. Sessions are conducted in a virtual, real time setting and delivered through today’s best-in-class virtual classroom technology.

Earlier in her professional career, Ms. Ake worked for Fidelity Investments in a variety of roles. Currently, Ms. Ake serves on the Board of Governors of The Woods Hole Golf Club, as Treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee, and on the Board of Directors of the Northeast ARC as fundraising chairperson. In addition, Ms. Ake regularly travels with Operation Smile working as a medical records, statistical reporting, and data outcomes volunteer. Ms. Ake has participated on missions to Cambodia, India, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the Philippines.

LAUREN HERTER

Co-founder, had an 8-year career with BankBoston as a Middle Market Lender and Workout Specialist. For five years she tutored Accounting and Finance at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. She is currently the office manager, case writer and marketing director for Herter Associates. Ms Herter earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government from Bowdoin College.
